Downstage Left ran its first open call for short plays for its fourth edition of The Playground: Amsterdam
We heard from playwrights from the Netherlands, Ireland, the UK, the US and many other places besides. It was a difficult choice, but we managed to select five great scripts.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, Playground 4 has been postponed several times. But never fear, the show will go on… eventually. Provisionally Playground 4: Amsterdam will go ahead in March 2022.
The Playground is Downstage Left’s bi-annual showcase of short plays. We usually perform between three and five short plays, drawing on the work of new and emerging playwrights.
Our next expanded edition of the Playground is dedicated to our great host city. We requested submissions for scripts (in English or Dutch) on the theme ‘Amsterdam’ – with no restrictions in terms of genre or subject matter but the story should have some connection or allusion to the city of Amsterdam (the Netherlands). We want to present multiple perspectives, anecdotes, experiences and memories, real or imagined, of the city of Amsterdam.
